LIBERNIUM 2.0

LIBERNIUM 2.0

THEME: Innovation, Sustainability, and the Future of Liberal Arts Education.

The Department of Liberal Arts, School of Social Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bannerghatta Road Campus, hosted Libernium 2.0 an interdisciplinary celebration of ideas, inquiry, and collaboration shaped around the theme Where Innovation Meets Sustainability. The event built on the Liberal Arts tradition of curiosity and critical thinking, while placing global sustainability challenges at the center of academic and creative exploration.

Across the two-day programme, students, faculty, and industry professionals came together to examine how imaginative, community-oriented solutions can address complex real-world issues. The event was designed to serve as a living laboratory for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encouraging participants to translate theory into practice through meaningful engagement.
Libernium 2.0 offered a dynamic mix of keynote addresses, panel discussions, experiential workshops, and research-based exhibitions. Each session highlighted the growing relevance of Liberal Arts education in shaping a world that values environmental responsibility, social equity, and technological progress. Major highlights included the Formation of the Liberal Arts Forum, an initiative aimed at strengthening dialogue and leadership within the department the SusCity Workshop, which immersed participants in sustainable urban design thinking, and the SDG Indicator Poster Presentation, where students showcased research on development metrics, policy gaps, and innovative solutions.
Every component of the event aligned with key SDGs such as Quality Education (4), Gender Equality (5), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (11), Climate Action (13), and Partnerships for the Goals (17). These connections were intentionally woven into the structure of the programme, reaffirming the department’s commitment to nurturing socially conscious, globally aware changemakers.
More than just a seminar or conference, Libernium 2.0 functioned as a collaborative space that encouraged intellectual risk-taking, creativity, and interdisciplinary thought. By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, the event created a platform for long-term academic exchange and inspired participants to think about sustainability not as a distant goal, but as an everyday practice.

In its second edition, Libernium strengthened CHRIST University’s vision of a future where education, innovation, and sustainability are inseparable. The event stands as a reminder that Liberal Arts education remains essential for shaping leaders who can imagine and build more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities.
